BEACHES

Beaches

Beaches that officially have been declared as accessible by the municipality of Kefalonia are: Skala beach (mechanical ramp installed enabling stroller to enter into the water), Lourdas, Xi, Antisamos, Platis Gialos (wooden ramps available) as well as Myrtos beach where a special inflatable Chair is available that enables transfer in the water.

All above beaches have been blue flag awarded.

Additional beaches with easy access are Makris Gialos, Ammes, Agia Kiriaki and Emplisi at Fiscardo.

Villa Katoi Beaches

Archaeological sites and attractions:

1.Archaeological area of the Mycenaean cemetery at Mazarakata recently presented with the support of NSRF program, a route accessible to people with mobility difficulties 93m length  that runs along the Mycenaean tombs.

2. Ancient Scala church (on the Skala-Poros road) routes accessible to the mobility difficulties both spaces are open to visitors (without guard at the moment)

Leaflets in Braille language are available for the following archaeological sites:

1. Mycenaean cemeteries Mazarakata-Lakithra

2. Roman cemetery Fiskardo

3. Archaic temple Skala

Melissani has also a relatively easy access to reecho the cave, with only two steps, to the lake but there with no provision for wheelchair transportation for the boat tour. Access is easy to Katavothres at Argostoli and at Karavomylos but not to all lagoon parts.

At Assos and Fiskardo parking is permitted (informally) at the historical center for cars that transfer disabled people.  Easily accessible for a walk at Argostoli: the new marina, Lithostroto (the main commercial street) and the bus station.

Activities: George Potamianos involved in alternative tourism on the island, http://outdoorkefalonia.com/special-needs, has included programs for disabled people with a specially designed boat that can take on board and ashore wheelchair as well as a special wheelchair for off road adventures.

taxi4all.gr  has a 9 seats van with a driver and the ability to transfer wheelchair (can be also 7 seats) for weekly reservations on the island.
